The Peak District, Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Northumberland, Snowdonia and the Cairngorms all boast a good number of fell races. Many fell races work around a village fete or country fayre between the sheepdog trials. For simplicity it was decided to drop the word Association from CFRA, leaving Cumberland Fell Runners and the club was on its way. It started with around 25 members and a donation from the CFRA to help it get on its feet. But by December 1987 and the club's first AGM, the members list was up to a very healthy 75 runners.
