On a standard deck height motor (9.025), I have heard a fraction of horror stories from guys who built a 3.875 stroke motors compared to the guys with 4 inch stroke. If going with a tall deck (9.3) The 4 inch works fine because it corrects the rod ratio.

307 sbc bore and stroke. In the mid to late '60s, thousands of 283 engines were treated to a .125-inch bore increase from 3.875 to 4.00 inches which were termed 301's since the bore size penciled out to 301.59 cubic inches. Chevy later combined the 327's 4.00-inch bore with the 283's steel 3.00-inch stroke crank and termed it a 302. And the rest is history.

The 267 has the same stroke as a 305 and 350. It also has a common deck height (9.025") and rod length (5.700") as well. A crank from a 262 (3.100" stroke) in a standard 267 block (3.500" bore) would give you a whopping 239 cubic inches! Using a 305 block (3.736") would get you a 271 incher.

From Super Chevy Magazine: "The '62-and-later 283 blocks can be bored 0.125 over and have enough crank clearance to run an early 3.25-stroke crank making them 327 cid. I can't prove it but my gut says that there may be some "round bottom" 283 blocks out there that will bore to .155 over, (4.030" over). I say this because the 283 blocks being "round bottom" ones can swallow a 3.25" stroke, 327 crank and 327's can bore to .030" over safely.BBC Bore, Stroke, and Rod List Jump to Latest Follow 17K views 20 replies 11 participants last post by ch3no2 Apr 6, 2019400 cubic inch 6.6L.
