My buddy and I just rebuilt my 4L60E with just some new clutches, steels, shims, filter, and gaskets, nothing to in depth. My buddy used to work for GM. The computer shows that it is shifting into 3rd and you feel it shift..., 4l60e overdrive shudder. So, I recently replaced my old worn out 5.0 in my 1993 K1500. In doing this I "upgraded" to a 5.7 and replaced all of the contributing parts that I could find would be connected in some way to this upgrade. I have changed out the ECM to one out of a 1993 K1500 that had the 5.7 and 4l60e just as my truck does now., When the key is in the ignition and the switch is turned to almost the on position, the engine light does come on and it doesn't stay on. ok. i think you have a bad ignition switch ,,this would explain the engine light problem and the transmission shifting problem,,replace the ignition switc,,not the key lock but the electrical switch itself., thegawd said: If this is a 4l60e it's 100% electronic. There is no vacume line to it... there is a hose on top that is a vent, connected to a hose so the end of the hose can be placed as high as you can get it so no water can get in, it should also have a plastic breather cap that stops water from entering., 4l60e no third or drive. 1 & 2 work fine- in overdrive the engine revs going to 3rd-let off gas & it shifts, but no 4th gear. Will not shift to third in drive at all. I changed the shift solenoids (both) and the VSS- still not shifting properly. No metal in the pan when I dropped it- fluid at bottom of pan was thick and sludgy.
