'its only meant for early game' is a really poor excuse. the ammount of time and effort to make one should be worth twice what they currently return for their investment., if you are building solely as an axe man, going for pacifist might be worth it. you only need axe and maintenance for combat. and the boost is covered by handyman and brawler. I wouldn't bother with brawler, +2 axe from lumberjack is plenty (the first +1 for any skill is by far the most valuable)., I'll probably just forage up a bunch of materials to make stone axes to chop away, and save my good and proper axes for the zombies. Everything else can be gotten in large quantities, and stuff like the Fire Axe is infinite anyway. Though that also means repairing the Wood Axe is kinda pointless because you can just use Hand Axes or Fire Axes for your tree work, which are in plentiful supply - or even forage up some stones and make stone ones., Doesn't even hinder movement. There are some mods however that allow you to do more with stones. The most basic idea is to bash two stoned torether to get a chipped stone. Several mods like "survival crafting" add this recipe. Then there is a mod that allows you to ground 10 stones into conrete or plaster bag.
