I don't believe Taurus ever officially stated why they were pulled, but the internet rumor-mill was Titanium became too expensive to manufacture entire revolvers out of this alloy. When I bought the gun I asked if it was rated for +p and the salesmen said no because it wasn't etched on the barrel that it could. However, when I check the Taurus website they show the model 85 as being 38+p. So, I assume I can shoot +p in the gun.
