My memoji disappeared

Why did my Memoji icons disappear from the favorites area of my emoji menu? I was given about 8 of my Memojis in various positions (in the far right ’favorite’ emojis area), but now they are gone. I can see them all (& more) in my stickers, but they are no longer available in my emoji menu when composing a message.
